In the course of working with local nonprofits in Canada, we have seen up close how certain issues exacerbate the work of these wonderful and necessary organizations. These issues affect too many communities differently, but no less severely, especially amongst the most marginalized.

In response, Virtual Philanthropy North has launched the Solutions Cohort, an ambitious initiative to seriously address some of the most serious epidemics plaguing communities at every corner of Canada. This is not meant to duplicate efforts but rather reinforce ones proven to have shown results, while employing key technological, expert, and philanthropic resources to create new ways at solving these issues.

Whether the cohort centres around gender-based violence, food insecurity, or dependency issues, the majority of solutions we will focus on are based on prevention. Preventing does not mean simply mitigating what has already happened but actually stopping it from happening at all. Solutions Cohort would not exist if we did not strongly believe they could be prevented from happening ever again.

Note: The Solutions Cohort will not release information about specific cohorts formed until they have reached a level where outcomes have been agreed upon. Once that has happened, all information will be made available on our website. If interested in learning more about the Solutions Cohort in general, please visit our Contact Us page.
